QoS - Prioritizing Your Network Traffic with Frontline
July 2008 - Our Frontline (spam blocker, web content filter, etc.)
has added a new feature, QoS (Quality of Service) which allows us
to prioritize your network traffic. This helps you to maximize your
current Internet bandwidth, putting a higher priority on work related
network traffic and lowering the priority on non-work related (music
downloads, video watching, etc.) network traffic.
As an example we’ll use the typical bank drive-thru. The bank has
a fixed number of teller windows and a fixed number of teller clerks.
Of course, you can always expand the bank to add more teller windows
and teller clerks (in other words, increase the Internet bandwidth),
but the goal is to make use of the bank's current capacity. The solution
is to have a certain number of customers wait in line while other
customers are serviced immediately. For example, merchants are serviced
through a fast, VIP (Very Important Person) line while personal banking
customers go through the slower lines. It only makes sense to give
work related network traffic a faster lane then someone surfing the
Internet or downloading music.
As you can see the QoS service would benefit anyone who wants to
improve their Internet bandwidth usage- most importantly those with
off-site applications, remote-offices, work related web sites, SAPs
etc. This QoS feature is included with our Frontline service at no
additional charge ($8/user/month). We will work with you to configure
the QoS service so you can maximize your Internet bandwidth. Contact Data Troop for more information or to setup a 15 day FREE trial. |
